What does a safe weight-loss program have?

  • Eating plans that do not stop you from eating certain foods or food groups
  • Regular physical activity or exercise
        Activities tailored to the individual
Staff of one or all of the following: doctor, nurse, psychologist, dietitian or exercise physiologist
Slow weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week (more rapid weight loss may occur at beginning of program)
A plan to keep the weight off

Other things to look for in a weight loss program:

    Individual or group counseling
Encourages you to exercise, follow an activity plan or has exercise instruction
Gives information on how to make healthy changes in eating habits
Does not use drugs or supplements that put your health at risk

Employee Testamonials:

"I have struggled with my weight for many years and my numbers at the 2012 health screening were, to put it bluntly, awful; I don’t like feeling deprived by dieting and exercise was never any fun, especially when carrying around an extra 50 pounds.  I have tried everything, but wasn’t getting any results; I honestly couldn’t stick with any program for too long, they were just too boring.   The County’s Wellness Program then made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.  I made my appointment in January 2013 with Alpha Life Style Center in Birmingham to try the weight management laser treatment.  I don’t know how it works but I am now within 15 pounds of my goal weight.  I can jog on the treadmill for 45 minutes – at 4.5 mph which is a fast walk for most but a real achievement for me, and my health screening numbers have significantly improved, and while the scale is still not my best friend, at least we are now on speaking terms." -Auditing employee

"I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how much the Weight Watchers at work program has helped me personally. I went to the county sponsored health check up (I can not recall the actual name of the program) and realized I needed to make some life changes quickly.      I joined Weight Watchers soon thereafter (began 6-22-10) and have been going every week since. I have lost 18 lbs thus far, and have a goal to lose three times that amount and I know I will accomplish this with the help of WW. It is a great program and Laura, the facilitator is wonderfully inspiring. I especially love it because, I for the first time know that this is a program I can use to maintain my weight after I achieve my weight goal; it really becomes a lifestyle.  Anyway, thank you for having this meeting at work, it has helped tremendously." -Circuit Court employee

"Last year, I went on a diet (drinking protein shakes) to lose some weight.  Although I lost 7 pounds, I quickly grew tired of not eating real food.  Reluctantly, I tried Weight Watchers.  At meetings, I learned a lot about healthy eating and how to enjoy a variety of food choices.  I am never “starving”, and have lost 37 pounds in about 7 months. On maintenance now, if I do gain a few pounds (pizza is my weakness), I get in control quickly to lose it.  Not every weight loss plan works for everyone, but I highly recommend this one for a lifetime of good eating habits." -Clerk/Register employee
