Have you tried to quit using tobacco in the past and been unsuccessful?

Alpha Lifestyle Center of Birmingham offers low-level laser programs to help individuals overcome nicotine addiction in ANY form (Cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, patches, gum, inhalers, e-cigarettes). The program pairs principles of ancient acupuncture with modern laser technology to offer customers a unique, alternative and comprehensive approach to lifestyle improvements without pain, needles, drugs or side effects. Laser treatments consist of stimulation of 33 areas on the ears, face, hands and wrist, each for a total of 30 seconds. The total appointment time is one hour.  Laser therapy is completely painless. There are no needles involved. Laser is a concentrated form of light energy.  Stimulation occurs over various points on the body with the laser, many of which are traditional acupuncture points.

Cost:  $295 - $150 subsidy to the first 200 eligible employees registered per calendar year. Employee pays $145. (Part time non-eligible employees, retirees and spouses/dependents are not eligible for the subsidy). Price includes the weight control add-on ($75 value) or FREE supplements ($50 value).
NOTE: Tobacco Cessation programs are reimbursable through your Health Care Reimbursement Account. (A letter of medical necessity is NOT required when submitting your receipt to WageWorks.)

 Employee Testimonials

"I was a smoker for the better part of 40 years when I heard of Laser Therapy to quit. Honestly, I was very skeptical as to whether it would work. I had tried the gums, the patches, cold turkey and Chantix - all with no success. I heard about Alpha Lifestyle centers through work, and the incentive program made it more affordable. Kelly at Lifestyle made it very simple and she was encouraging through the whole process. I've now been smoke free for one year and 8 months. It's the best $150 I've ever spent!" -Mike Tower, WRC Employee

"I was a cigarette smoker for 44 years, starting at the age of 14, and was never able to quit, despite trying several times over the years. My issue was a strong nicotine addiction and I always enjoyed smoking. I finally got tired of being a slave to the product and having to buy a carton every ten days, no matter what. I decided to try quitting one more time, using three methods together. I did the tapering off over a three week period ( getting down to just a couple of cigarettes a day), using the Chantix prescription drug that eliminates the craving, and then getting the laser treatment on my quit day. I’ve gone eleven weeks without smoking and am over the physical addiction. I never thought I could do it, but some combination of  being ready to quit and the help methods offered by OakFit did the trick. I enjoy now a cleaner house, a cleaner car, and not spending $200 a month on tobacco." -WRC Employee

"I had smoked for over 40 years and enjoyed every second of smoking.  In other words… I loved to smoke.  With that being said, I knew that I needed to quit for three reasons: 1) it is perhaps the worst thing that an individual can self-impose upon themselves for maintaining good health; 2) I watched myself age prematurely due to smoking; 3) smoking was becoming a very expensive habit.  The County Wellness Program began to offer the laser therapy and I was more than skeptical.  As a matter of fact, I scoffed at the idea that some hocus pocus laser would rid me of my beloved habit.  Since the County would pay $100 toward this therapy I grudgingly decided to give it a try.  My appointment was on December 17, 2012 and I have not smoked since that date.  I can’t explain it, still think it is kind of crazy, but I am now smoke free with no desire to return to my old friends (cigarettes)." -Julie Secontine, Risk Manager
