Couch to 5k/10k Running Program


​Have you wanted to get started on an exercise program towards a healthy lifestyle? Have you ever thought about participating in a 5k (3.1 miles) or 10k (6.2 miles) race? Then the OakFit Couch to 5k/10k training program is for you! This will get you started on an exercise program and provide you with the support you need to complete a race. Run/walk/run intervals or stride/walk/stride intervals are used in this training. 

 Program Details

Begins August 3, 2022 and ends October 12, 2022.

  • Groups meet on Wednesday at Paradise Peninsula at Waterford Oaks Park at 5:30 p.m.
  • This program is for employees and family members 18 years or older
  • Race sign up will be done on your own
  • You will be asked to run or walk for 20-40 minutes two other times during the week on your own to help build stamina

​Sue Barnes, owner of Socially Motivated Wellness (SOMO), has over 20 years of running experience with races from 5k (3.1 miles) to 50K (31 miles). She is passionate about running and very active in the running community. Over 800 people in SE Michigan have trained with her SOMO program since beginning in 2016.
